Chicken, Young Meez bring originality to hip-hop

Andre Jones and Jeromy Cherry are brothers from the Hill District, who along with NBA basketball star DeJuan Blair formed “Put On Productions.”

Jones aka Chicken is 22 and his brother Cherry aka Young Meez is 20. These young men are making waves on the hip-hop scene in Pittsburgh and across the country. There music is a combination of conscious music with a mainstream appeal. Even though they have the production company together with Blair, they are solo artists.

Cover To Cover...‘Brainwashed’

by Terri Schlichenmeyer
For New Pittsburgh Courier

It’s enough to make you want to bury your head.

You read about a young Black man, killed by another young Black man over tennis shoes. On TV is a silky-haired sistah shaking her stuff at a hate-spouting rapper. Click, and see a fight over baby daddies. Click again, and there’s a sitcom with a Black man acting the fool.

We don't ever want to do that with respect to the legacy of The Moments/Ray, Goodman & Brown. So I thought that I would put something together that was a bit more traditional to mark his passing. At the end is the information about Al's services, which will be this Monday morning in Englewood, NJ...
