Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund marks 20 years

On June 12 at the Holiday Inn Select-University Center, the Kappa Scholarship Endowment Fund of Western Pennsylvania celebrated 20 years of scholarship giving.

Students were smartly dressed and accompanied by friends and parents and were the special guests of KSEF. Rex Crawley, KSEF, board president, said this year’s class of awardees walked away with scholarships valued at well over $300,000. Three students received full academic scholarships to Robert Morris and Penn State universities. In 2005, KSEF joined in partnership with Robert Morris University to award two full-tuition scholarships to attend the school.

“To God Be The Glory” is the first thing that comes to Rev. William C. Callaway’s mind when he thinks about the 100 years Mt. Olive First Baptist Church has spent bringing Jesus Christ to the residents of Clairton.

“Mt Olive has been a light in the community for the last 100 years because of its spirituality and its community outreach,” said Rev. Callaway, pastor of the church for 48 years. “We’ve been a community church. We’ve been a place for local organizations like the Boy Scouts and Alcoholics Anonymous.”

Vacation time

Summer is officially here. Have you planned your vacation? There are great deals everywhere due to the weak economy so take advantage of the deals. If you can get away on short notice you can really find bargains. How about a trip to Disney World? I have not been there in years and I’m like a kid in a candy store in places with people dressed in costume.

Do you love Las Vegas as much as I do? There are deals galore in Sin City. If you want to be surprised you can log into a site and let them chose what hotel you will stay in. You can determine if you want to stay in a three- or four-star hotel. Do you want a king size room or suite? Just pick something.
