Inside Conditions...Conspiracy theory
Category: Sports Written by Aubrey Bruce - Courier Sports Columnist
After watching the debacle, oops I meant game between the Steelers and Patriots Sunday evening, I am thoroughly convinced that New England is on a serious run toward the Lombardi Trophy. Why do I say that, you ask? Well, if they could thump the Steelers like they stole a pork chop before Sunday dinner, what makes you think that they can’t duplicate that feat against the rest of their NFL colleagues? But Watson wait; before we exit Scotland Yard, please, please as Judge Judy might say, “put on your listening ears” because I am about to offer up a few “incredible” if not “credible” theories.

City League Roundup…Brashear, Perry to meet for title

Brashear and Perry will take part in the 91st City League Football championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. after defeating Allderdice and Brashear, respectively, in last week’s semifinals at Cupples Stadium.
Perry (10-1) has gone a perfect 9-0 in the City— including the semifinal game—and owns the top seed in the playoffs. They have not lost since they fell to North Hills in their non-conference opener back on Sept. 3. Their opponent, Brashear (6-4, 5-3), hasn’t had such a smooth road.

By week six, the Bulls looked like they were in a prime position to ride into the post-season, nearly unblemished with 4-2 overall record and 3-1 in the city. But they lost their next two games, first to Perry 34-14 on Oct 22, and then a 34-24 upset loss to Peabody. At that point, they were 4-4 and on the brink of being knocked down in the playoff picture.

CINCINNATI (AP)—No trip to the commissioner’s office over this one. James Harrison’s final hit was high, hard and totally textbook.
Decided a game, too.
Harrison helped knock the ball loose from Jordan Shipley on Cincinnati’s final play, preserving a 27-21 win on Monday night that kept the Pittsburgh Steelers sharing first place in the AFC North at the season’s midpoint.

Wanamaker leads No. 5 Pitt past Rhode Island 83-75

PITTSBURGH (AP)—All summer, his fellow coaches asked Pitt’s Jamie Dixon why he agreed to play an opponent like Rhode Island in the season opener. For most of Monday night’s game, Dixon was asking himself the same question.
Brad Wanamaker scored 24 points, Ashton Gibbs had 22 and No. 5 Pittsburgh survived an upset scare in the nation’s first Division I game of the season, rallying from eight points down to beat the Rams 83-75.
