TOP HONORS—Sarah Elizabeth Barnes, a 2008 graduate of The Ellis School, was named to the dean’s list with distinction at Duke University for the fall 2009 semester. She was among 917 students who achieved that honor from among the more than 6,400 undergraduate students at Duke.

Barnes is a member of the Class of 2012 in the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences and has a double major in history and Spanish. She is the daughter of Elizabeth and James Barnes, and the granddaughter of Florence and Justin Johnson. To make the dean’s list, students must rank in the top third of their college; for dean’s list with distinction, the top 10th of their college.

MARCH 24—The Community College of Allegheny County Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity will host “The Feminist Movement in Western Pennsylvania: Yesterday and Today” from 1-3 p.m. at the Student Services Center Auditorium, 808 Ridge Ave., North Shore. There ha been several community meetings to address the Jordan Miles case but none recently to address the Black-on-Black violence, so we asked Pittsburghers what they thought and what should be done. Here’s what you said:

Promoter Don Patterson of Penn Hills could not believe his eyes while watching this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. As he watched members of the Pittsburgh Police march by in their dress blues, behind them were about 70 officers wearing Green T-shirts that read “3599” on the front, and, “We Support Our Three Brothers,” on the back.

HIGH VISIBILITY— Members of Pittsburgh’s Fraternal Order of Police take advantage of the country’s second largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade to show their support for three suspended officers who allegedly beat a CAPA High School student during an arrest in January.

The three brothers are officers Michael Saldutte, David Sisak and Richard Ewing, who allegedly beat CAPA High School senior Jordan Miles during a Jan. 12 arrest near his home. The 3599 refers to the unmarked car the plainclothes officers drove that night.
