Where are they now?

by Malik Vincent

There are several players who left the confines of the City League—namely Schenley High School, and joined some noted college programs.

After leading the Schenley Spartans to a PIAA state championship in 2007, DeJuan Blair, D.J. Kennedy and DeAndre Kane all made it to the major-college level of competition. One of them has achieved a level to which many aspire from the first time they take their first steps on the hardwood.

Blair, the most noted of the three, played two seasons at Pitt from 2007-09 and was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs as the 37th overall selection. He is now in his second season with the franchise where he broke the starting lineup this season and is averaging 7.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the team with the best record in the NBA.

Steelers ground Jets

Terrible Towels will wave again at Super Bowl XLV in Cowboys Stadium, where the Steelers will meet the Green Bay Packers on Feb. 6 after silencing Rex Ryan's wild bunch. Despite a near perfect first half, the Steelers almost made history by giving up the biggest lead in AFC championship history but held on to capture their eighth AFC title Sunday over the New York Jets, 24-19.

"Shoot, any time you get to the Super Bowl, it feels good," Ben Roethlisberger  said after the game. "I don't care what you're going through or what's going on. We put a lot of stuff behind us early and found a way."

On the road again

Please bear with me. The following words are an edited and slightly different version of the legendary Willie Nelson’s “On the road again.” Let me see, uh huh. On the road again, gonna miss all my Pittsburgh friends. The New York Jets played like toads again. That’s why I’ll be on the road again. On the road again. All my enemies are friends again. Their seventh Super Bowl, the Steelers will win. That’s why I love going on the road again.

Man this is getting to be redundant. In 2006, I was exiled to the frozen tundra of Ford Field in Detroit. In 2009 I was forced to endure wind chills in the mid-50s in Tampa Bay as the Steelers beat up on Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals. Here I go again. On the way to the land of Jerry Jones and barbecue bones to witness the Steelers get the ring for the middle finger of the left hand. Unlike most of the “wagon jumpers,” I purchased my airline ticket to Dallas, shortly after the Steelers beat the Cleveland Brownies in their last 2010 regular season contest to claim the crown of the AFC North.

:09 Rarely do you see fast and quick in the same body but Mike Wallace is just that and he has “2” Speeds ...Fast...and fast as he needs to be!

:08 I am still trying to figure out why “they” spent $500 million on a new arena and then play the hockey game outside, huh?

Steelers and Jets in showdown for the AFC championship

The King is dead, who will be the new King?

Well the mighty kings of the NFL the New England Patriots were supposed to crush all challengers on their way to the Super Bowl title, but…that’s why they play the game.

The Patriots were upset by the New York Jets 28-21 to set up an AFC title game in Pittsburgh. So instead of having to travel to New England, the Steelers will enjoy home cooking as they host the Jets.
