Technology is moving faster than the speed of light. Are you keeping up? Eighty-eight year old actress Betty White—whose popularity has gone through the roof lately—was marveling at how “live” TV was such a unbelievably big deal back in the 1940s and ’50s when her 63-year career began. Back then owning a television was a luxury. Today, Black families typically own more televisions per household than any other demographic group. ’Fess up—do you have more televisions in your house than people?

Sharpton to NNPA: Corporations ‘owe’ ad dollars to Black newspapers

NEW YORK (NNPA)—Activist Al Sharpton, keynote speaker at a kickoff prayer breakfast at the National Newspaper Publishers Associations 70th Anniversary Convention last week, warned the more than 215 Black publishers to stay in control of the definition of the Black struggle and to not back down from demanding their fair share of advertising dollars.
“We are meeting because the future of Black America is in this room,” he described the pivotal leadership of the Black Press. He frequently referred to NNPA Chairman Danny Bakewell of the Los Angeles Sentinel, a firebrand leader who has been demanding corporate and federal government fair share of ads for NNPA member papers.

Power of 32 introduced

Former politician and public servant, Allen G. Kukovich served as featured speaker during the June 18 Power Breakfast meeting held by the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania. During his presentation he introduced the Power of 32, a new initiative involving the region.
While introducing Kukovich to a mixed audience of adults and students, Doris Carson Williams, president and CEO of the Chamber, stated that the Power of 32 shows promise for exciting things happening in the region.

Would you lend $5,000 to a good friend—assuming you have it? If so, what is the time frame you would consider giving your friend to pay you back in full? How will you ensure that your friend pays you back? Will you hold onto something of value from your friend to ensure that your loan is paid? If your friend fell on hard times and had difficulty repaying you, how would you respond? If your friend simply neglected to pay you back, do you think it would put a strain on your friendship? Most of us would have to really think it over before we commit to lending a personal friend that type of money.
