Kyte encourages commitment to community involvement

Growing up in a housing project in the Hill District and the enlightenment he received from the community helped motivate Donnie Kyte to become a businessman.

Kyte is the proprietor of the Ike Wear 36 Clothing Store located at 648 Herron Ave. in the Hill District. He grew up in Warren Court where older men and women in the community enlightened him about becoming a businessman and the importance of giving back to the community. Looking around and seeing things in the community that he did not have, drove him to want to make a change for the better and fill the void. Ike Wear sells a variety of T-shirts, jackets, hoodies, polo style shirts, fitted hats with much more to come.

Advice to consumers: Say no to high-cost overdraft fees

(NNPA)—As parents everywhere prepare for their children to return to school, spending for clothing, school supplies and equipment can mount up in a hurry. Amid the harried and hurried rush to get students ready for new school terms, one particular time-sensitive insert to bank statements may not receive a thoughtful review. Anyone who has an active checking account is affected.

Starting Aug. 15 banks and credit unions will no longer be able to charge overdraft fees on debit card transactions unless consumers have chosen to specifically accept this kind of overdraft coverage. In an effort to preserve these revenue-rich fees that generate nearly $24 billion annually on an average charge of $34 per transaction, financial institutions are aggressively using a combination of mailers, telephone calls, Web advertising, ATM screens and more. The marketing message is to “hurry up and enroll.” Wiser minds would advise consumers to “slow down and read the fine print.”

How ‘not’ to go broke gambling

It’s my life’s mission to teach people how to make good decisions with their money—including budgeting, saving, spending, investing and selecting the best insurance, investment and mortgage products. In my opinion, gambling of any form is considered to be a bad financial decision. The odds are stacked against you. Yet, I grew up in a family who gambled all the time. I would be telling a lie if I said that I’ve never gambled.

Listen up! I have insider information that will stack the deck in your favor. I’m going to teach you “A sure-fire way to leave the casino with a small fortune” and “The safest way to double your money when gambling.” With various casinos taking root in and near the city of Pittsburgh, Pa., I figured my “Courier” family might want the inside scoop.
