Training, private sector buy-in needed for green jobs... EPA’s Jackson speaks in city

Lisa Jackson is moving to transform the U.S. economy to one based on renewable, or sustainable energy to fight the threat of global warming. As director of the Environmental Protection Agency she has considerable power to do so.

At what age do you want to retire?

“Thank God it’s Friday!” “Oh, God it’s Monday!” These are expressions I hear quite often from working people. We all dream of the glorious day when we’ll clock out for the very last time. Imagine waking up when you’re good and ready. Imagine, vacationing when you’re good and ready. Imagine staying up to the crack of dawn just because you wanted to watch the sun rise. Imagine spending quality time with your loved ones and not being distracted by work-related proposals, deadlines, quotas, customer complaints and office politics. Have you dreamed of the life of leisure during your retirement days? At what age have you determined that you’ll hang up your working shoes?

UPMC addresses state of region’s minority business

Capacity building, mentoring, efficiency, accountability and inclusion were words and phrases often used during the Community Conversation on Supplier Diversity presented by the Center for Inclusion in Health Care and the Supply Chain Management Department at UPMC. Moderated by Lynne Hayes-Freeland, KDKA TV2 reporter, producer and host, the theme of the event was “Partnering to Make a Difference.”

Outlining a three-fold agenda, Toni Silva Jeter; director of Supplier Relations at UPMC, encouraged the audience, inclusive of Minority, Women and Disadvantaged Businesses, certification and business development agency officials and UPMC personnel, to strive to build capacity and to work together in the future. “Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community to build businesses,” she said.

April 15th has passed and if you are like me, you have filed your tax return and are breathing a sigh of relief. However, before you put your tax files away, take a little time to start planning for your 2010 taxes. By taking a little time now, you may be better able to manage your tax burden and save some tax dollars. When it comes to taxes, procrastination is your biggest enemy.
