On June 16 a man of conviction and commitments was honored by the Allegheny Conference of the AME Zion Church, Bishop Louis Hunter Sr.
Bishop Hunter is the presiding bishop of the Allegheny Conference and is celebrating the completion of a four-year term. The luncheon was held at the beautiful Omni William Penn Hotel.
| STRONG TO THE FINISH

Not only did the group enjoy a scrumptious meal, they enjoyed a well thought out tribute to Bishop Hunter. It appears Bishop Hunter is fond of Popeye the Sailor or perhaps the motto of being strong to the finish. A mini-play directed by Rev. Dina L. Martin and written and produced by Marsha Grayson depicted what Bishop Hunter has accomplished during his tenure of presiding prelate, Mid-Atlantic/Episcopal District, AMEZ Church. The play was complete with Popeye, Olive Oyl and Brutus and judging by the laughter in the audience it was a hit.
Bishop Hunter says he believes in leaving a place better off than when you arrived. The afternoon included musical and spoken tributes, with the clergy of the Allegheny Conference joined in song, singing “Victory is Mine.”
Bishop Hunter is a graduate of Hood Theological Seminary. He also received a Master of Divinity degree from Hood Theological Seminary and a Master of Arts Degree from the School of Communications, Howard University.
Bishop Hunter has held positions as presiding elder, Atlanta District; presiding elder, Atlanta-Summerville District; and presiding elder, Dallas District.
