The August Wilson Center for African American Culture presents Lalah Hathaway at 8 p.m. at the center, 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. Slip into the rich, silky sounds of songstress Lalah Hathaway as she kicks off the inaugural season of the brand new August Wilson Center. Hathaway hypnotizes with a soulful, jazzy repertoire rooted in the music of her native Chicago and filled with endless possibilities. Sweetwater Center for the Arts and Dwayne Dolphin presents the Music Series for Mauvno 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at 200 Broad St., Sewickley. Dolphin will host a concert series presenting talented musicians who will show you the wonders and variety of African influenced music. This week’s artist will be The Marty Ashby Trio. The Pittsburgh Jazz Society presents Jazz Day in the Park from 12-9 p.m. at Schenley Plaza, Oakland. Enjoy Pittsburgh’s finest jazz musicians and vocalists. The featured entertainment will be the Jazz Divas, the Jazz Divos, the Harold Betters Quartet featuring Kenny Blake, the Joe Negri Quartet, the Benny Binack Big Band, Roger Humphries RH Factor featuring Sean Jones and the American Latin Orchestra.
