Chasing Glenn Beck

Chasing Glenn Beck

(NNPA)—I never thought it would have gone this low so fast. On the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech the major civil rights groups or should we now say “human rights” groups coalescing together not to celebrate the anniversary but to protest a White cable te...

From 1882 to 2010, the same message: Not enough evidence

If you have been a reader of my column, you may remember I wrote that there would be no prosecution of the three Pittsburgh police officers involved in the Jordan Miles incident. How did I arrive at that conclusion? There was a time in my life when I was a law enforcement officer in the Allegheny...

The 1963 march on Washington got off to rocky start

The 1963 march on Washington got off to rocky start

(NNPA)—The dueling events on the anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom have ended, but astoundingly little is known about the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that at several times threatened to derail the march where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Hav...

Glenn Beck’s Washington rally: Much ado about nonsense

Glenn Beck’s Washington rally: Much ado about nonsense

(REAL TIMES MEDIA)—Last year I wrote a piece entitled “Glenn Beck is my kind of revolutionary” which received a lot of attention precisely because I argued against conventional wisdom at the time and took a few well organized shots at Beck at the same time. A year ago, when Glenn Beck was asce...

Katrina revealed race and poverty

Katrina revealed race and poverty

(NNPA)—Much as the Emmett Till murder did 55 years ago, Hurricane Katrina pulled back the cultural curtains and revealed the intersecting roads of race and poverty in the United States of America. In both cases, America’s egalitarian myth of civility to all her citizens was shattered by the ph...

President Obama recently won the Nobel Peace Prize so we asked Pittsburghers what they thought. Here’s what you said:

“He deserves it. It was according to the committee’s intent. It was about his actions, his actions of including the Muslim world to bring about peace. His actions have created inspiration and have inspired the world be bring about peace and that’s what the prize is about.”

“It was an honor, especially since he has not been in office for a year. To hold him in such high esteem, the prize committee feels he has nothing but good things to offer. He has shown this by giving the prize money away. Winning this gives him momentum to push forward.”

“It’s a win for the world.”

“I think it’s wonderful. Just the way the world has changed and reacted to him. He’s received positive comments from Castro and Chavez, though they are the enemy. It’s wonderful.”

“It was a surprise. I just didn’t have a reaction. Obama Noble Peace Prize in the same sentence made sense to me. Some might disagree, but it’s the symbol. Not for Obama the person but the symbol he represents globally. That’s not meant to take anything away from his person, it’s about what he represents.”
Ryan Patrick Parker

“He’s earned it. He has met with the Muslims, he has reached out to a lot of countries that other presidents have not. He’s done a lot more in nine months than most presidents have done in four years. The fact that he gave the money away speaks for itself. It’s just like his slogan ‘CHANGE.’”

So, you are saying that the noble prize is nothing but a game??
Peace prize is meaningless
written by Charles Raggin, October 22, 2009
It's a joke. The nominations were made back in February which means he was nominated after just weeks in office. Not that he has done anything since then that would warrant the Peace prize, unless you want to count weakening our country and bringing down our standard of living to that of the wonderful muslim countries he wants us to be friendly towards.
