Hosanna House Summer Camp still a place of hope

by Paige Mitchell
For New Pittsburgh Courier

A place called hope was the old mission statement Hosanna House used to live by. And a place of hope, encouragement and support it truly was.

It all began 20 years ago when Leon E. Haynes saw the possibility of the future, and he has been changing lives ever since. Now celebrating their 20th year anniversary, Hosanna House has recently changed their mission statement to “The Mission is Possible.”

When Marian Peters attends Penn State this year, she will be following in her sister’s footsteps. Not only is she attending the same university, but she is also the recipient of a $1,000 Clean Slate Scholarship presented by the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh.

This year, the 28th annual workshop was held on the campus of Point Park University from July 31-Aug. 7.

“I was very excited to see how, once again, the students have grown from day one (of the program) to the end of it, said PBMF President Tonita Davidson. They found their stories and developed them (independently). I can tell that most of the participants will go far.”
