West ­Allegheny thrashes West Mifflin with Wildcat offense

West Allegheny (12-1), a 6-time WPIAL football champion, wasted little time flashing and dashing its way over, around and through the West Mifflin (11-2) defense en route to 386 yards on the ground—mostly through the Wildcat —using a 3-headed rushing attack for a 34-8 victory and the Class AAA crown.

West Mifflin barely had time to settle in before West Allegheny began its offensive assault. Sophomore halfback Chayse Dillon rushed for 121 yards and scored two first-half touchdowns; Senior Nick Halbedl rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns and Armand Dellovade scored the team’s other two touchdowns.

Defensively, the Indians contained 2,000 yard rusher Jimmy Wheeler.  It was the first time all season the junior star running back was held under 100 yards.

Wheeler, maybe the fastest player in the WPIAL scoring 28 touchdowns, was disappointed after the game.

“I had a good feeling before the game that we could move the ball on them,” Wheeler said.  “We have a very strong and powerful offensive line and I wish we could play them again.”
