Where are the voices of outrage?

Dear Editor:
What has happened to Black’s voices of outrage and protest? Let’s analyze and talk about some of the stories and happenings in Pittsburgh of late.

Two busloads of police recruits were spotted coming out of the Lexington Technology facility. Not one Black young man was among them. (Blacks should raise their voices and be outraged.)

These work and construction sites throughout the city and county—where are the Black young men? Why aren’t they working? (Blacks should raise their voices and be outraged.)

Rarely, if ever do I see any Black young men on these crews in Duquesne Light, Equitable Gas and Verizon trucks. Why aren’t the Black young men working for these companies? We Black people are paying our utility bills, but our youngsters aren’t getting trained and hired. (Blacks should raise their voices and be outraged.)

This young White man accused of stealing over two million dollars while working as a security guard with Garda. Here is an alleged White thief and murderer holding down a responsible job like this and our young Black men are walking the streets. I just wonder how many Blacks work for Garda? (Blacks should raise their voices and be outraged.)

This White police officer (with a gun for God’s sake), who is accused of bribery, oppression, indecent assault, drug possession and other charges, now on house arrest. We all know if he were Black, he’d be under the jail. And look at some of the prison sentences our young Black men are getting—30 and 40 years. (Blacks should raise their voices and be outraged.)

And how about these two bigoted, N-word calling incidents at predominately White schools in Brentwood and Peters Township. I didn’t read where anything drastic was done in the way of reprimands. (Blacks should raise their voices and be outraged.)

All Black people had better start and continue to speak up and out—our existence and the existence of our young people depend on it.
