Rev. Murphy installed as new Carrone Baptist Church pastor

FIRST ROBE—Reverend Alonzo Murphy Jr. receives his first robe from the congregation.
Reverend Alonzo Murphy Jr., 43,was installed as the new pastor of Carrone Baptist Church in Homewood.
Reverend Murphy who is originally from Berkley, W.Va., has been preaching since 2008 and was ordained in 2010 from Ebenezer Baptist Church under Rev. Dr. J. V. A. Winsett.
His parents are Deacon Marshall Ross and Rev. Juanita Ross, both of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Reverend Murphy becomes the 12th pastor of Carrone Baptist Church.
He attended West Virginia Institute of Technology, Mercy Kingdom School of Ministry in Denver and the American Baptist Theological Seminary-Pittsburgh Extension.
Carrone Baptist Church was founded in 1885 under the name of Second Baptist Church of the East End. In 1886 the church reorganized and changed its name to Siloam Baptist Church before moving from East Liberty to Homewood in 1957 and changing its name to Carrone under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Porter W. Phillips who served for 47 years.
He was followed by Rev. Dr. Gary Brandon in 1988 and Rev. Kenneth Johnson from 2002 through 2009.
