Richmond Barthe

The August Wilson Center for African American Culture presents “Richmond Barthe: His Life in Art” at 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. This is a collection of 30 sculptures by Barthe, the first modern African-American sculptor to achieve national and international success. He created classically influenced bronze sculptures featuring African-American and African subjects. The exhibit will be shown through Sept. 15. For more information, call 412-258-2700

Wes Moore

The Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures presents Wes Moore “Discovering Wes Moore” at 7 p.m. at the Hill House Kaufmann Center, the Elsie H. Hillman Auditorium, 1835 Centre Ave., Hill District. Moore is a Rhodes Scholar, combat veteran, White House Fellow and best selling author. Guests will hear Moore’s story that will inspire teens and families, and have the opportunity to get signed autographs. Tickets are $5-$10. Jazz Jam

CJ’s Restaurant & Lounge presents “The Roger Humphries & RH Factor Jazz Jam Session” at 8 p.m. at 2901-2911 Penn Ave., Strip District. There will be live jazz and fun every Thursday night. Creative Local presents “Hidden Gems: The Architecture of Homewood” from 2-4 p.m. at the Homewood Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, 7101 Hamilton Ave., Homewood. Hidden Gems will feature a quartet of architects and historians discussing the historical significance of some of Homewood’s architecture. This is a free event. Gem of the Ocean

The August Wilson Center for African American Culture presents “Gem of the Ocean” at 7 p.m. at 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. This play features the character Aunt Esther, who opens her home to a troubled migrant from the rural South Citizen Bartlow, and portrays the emotional and physical journey that Bartlow goes through.
