My first stop was at the Benedum Center where Groove Productions presented the Classic Soul Music Festival starring Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band, Con Funk Shun, Artistree and comedian Cool-Aide. This event was sold out and everyone was dressed to impress as they enjoyed the soulful sounds of Charlie Wilson. He sang all his old hits and some of the new ones and he shared how God has rescued him and turned his life around. It was a great time for everyone.

My second stop was at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture where Shelly Garrett’s “Beauty Shop” was performed by a stellar cast. The play was funny and enlightened and very entertaining. If you missed it, you really missed a great show.

My next stop was at the Improv where comedian DeRay Davis brought the house down. He is definitely a comedic genius and had the crowd laughing from the beginning of the show to the end.
My next stop was at a cookout held by Ronnetta Thomas and family in the Hill District where they celebrated the life of Glenn Campbell who passed away one month ago. Family and friends came together to share the memories and good times of a great man.

My final destination was at the Shadow Lounge in East Liberty where the legendary DJ Large Professor was on the one’s and two’s doing his thing for the crowd. People were break dancing and partying all night long.
