It seems democracy and market based economies oftentimes do not live up to their reputations of delivering a better life for all. What is highlighted in this article is not unique to the cities named in the article. On the contrary, dangerous gaps between wealthy and poor are indeed ubiquitous. Sadly for peoples of African descent, nowhere inside or outside Africa are dark complexioned peoples, as a collective, doing well. As far as this article is concerned, for awhile I thought the author was describing the different divides of wealthy suburbs v Bantustans of South Africa, ostensibly a "rainbow nation" and a "leading democracy in Africa."
