CNN: On Getting Rid of Soledad O'Brien and Roland Martin

This news does not by any stretch of the imagination come as a surprise if one has been paying attention to the CNN's political tone. If either O'Brien or Martin were hawking truth and reconciliation themes on international events, they would at once become darlings of the media. Christiane Amanpour's "interview" with President Robert G. Mugabe of Zimbabwe, who is currently leading the charge for the economic justice that should have come with independence, was offputting to even a c minus student in political science. And the tone on similar struggles current struggles in the Mid-East reveal the same lack of balance in reporting. So the sword of Damocles always hovered over these two fine reporters doing their jobs without compromise to principles. And BET has certainly been a joke. Many thought rap, in the face of economic success, would become the voice of the underrepresente d and underprivileged . Alas no!

They have basically phasing out all their black anchors and the only black anchors we do see are light skinned and they usually are paired with a white co-anchor. On the other hand white anchors are usually by themselves. It's sad how CNN touts morality while stomping all over it. They do it during shooting where they pretend to care about not making the shooter imfamous while simultaneously doing exactly that. They do it during debates where they ask how to stop shootings, while neglecting that many of the copy cats probably get their ideas from watching CNN coverage. They are doing it with the Cleveland kidnap victims where they claim to care about their privacy while invading their home and their privacy. And now after airing shows like Black in America they blatantly phase out their black anchors. On top of it all, the only time you see black commentators is when they are covering stories involving black people. Otherwise black people don't have alace at CNN.

A Model to Emulate: The Greenwood Section of Tulsa, OK

Well, it looks as if reality is forcing us to take a second look at this so-called "post racial" America. A hard look, at that. As a consequence of successful attacks on affirmative action in which even some prominent African Americans have been in the forefront, the center is now considerably to the right of even the Nixon Administration thanks to President Ronald Reagan. Even Archie Bunker became lovable, remember? Indeed, Carroll O'Connor played him too well. People began to feel comfortable in their prejudiced skins. Slowly but surely tell tale signs began to emerge that we were no longer owners of the moral compass established long before Lincoln. Heck, even Oberlin College, the first nonAfrican American college to grant the Bachelor's degree to newly freed African Americans is the scene of insidious bigotry. In retrospect, the Greenwood section of Tulsa showed what we could do for ourselves, didn't it? You see, God loves that child who has his own!

The objective of business is to make money in whatever market that they can. If it means being friendly toward Black people good. If it means firing Black people to get higher ratings then so be it. If you want Blacks on the air you better start thinking in terms of buying the TV stations!
