Dorner: A View from Another Source

It's rather incredible to believe that in an ostensibly "post-racial" America, it still takes the patience of Job for many African Americans to countenance some of the civil wrongs long thought long passe which are still with us and glaringly so. The Dorner matter is but one among a litany of many. And quiet as kept, even some responsible members of the community (wording not intended as a swipe at Dorner), mind you, were shocked that a tsunami of this proportion hadn't happened sooner. Others compared Dorner as a modern day Denmark Vesey, another rebel with a cause. Take a look at this view from a former member of the Los Angeles Police Department. http://lasentinel.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10454:christopher-dorner-manifesto-not-only-do-i-believe-it-but-i-lived-it&catid=75:breaking-news&Itemid=165 After attempting to digest what you've just read, do try nonetheless to have a nice day.

Rant: A Product of Yuppie Lexicon

the words we use are informative and tell us much about the user's social position on subjects of the moment. For example, am I the only one who's noticed the omnipresent use of the word "rant"? I'm tired of the word. To me, at least, it is editorializing in extremis by "reporters." And if we were to set up a calculus with approbation on the one side and disapprobation on the other, we'd see at once "rant' is always used in the disapprobation sense and therefore unfavorable in tone to the one being talked about. It is also invariably the property of a yuppie!

Dorner: An Inflexible Bureaucracy

The system got to him. When an inflexible bureaucracy turned a deaf ear to his pleas. an otherwise outstanding and highly productive citizen snapped under duress and did something he would not otherwise do. Too bad -- for all concerned. Hard driving and high achieving sometimes find it difficult to turn the other cheek. Many of us know of workplace conflicts that were worthy of serious review in an atmosphere of buddy-buddy intransigence. Did this former police officer with a history of outstanding service deserve an audience early on to his grievances? Many suspect so. The result, in consequence, was a tragedy for all, the deceased and the living who, will have to deal with this tsunami
