Out & About with Brotha Ash

This week I visited the August Wilson Center for African American Culture, the Montage in Wilkinsburg, the Wyndham Hotel Ballroom in Oakland, the Shadow Lounge in East Liberty, Kelly’s Place in East Liberty, CJ’s in the Strip District, Melange’s Bristol Bar in Downtown Pittsburgh, and Ujamaa Collective’s Market Place in the Hill District.

My first stop was the Montage in Wilkinsburg where Schenley High School held their reunion for the class of 1970. It was a great turnout and everyone was glad to reunite and have a great time.

I am in love with my brother. I’m Afraid to tell him!

(NNPA)—Dear Gwendolyn:

I have a problem. In high school I missed going to my junior and senior prom because there were no boys I wanted to go with. I guess you can assume that I have never found an interest in anyone except my brother. I am adopted and my brother was also adopted. At the time of my adoption I was six months old and my brother was adopted at birth. I always felt something was wrong. Neither one of us ever knew until two years ago while helping my mother discard papers from the attic. Now that explains why I have feelings for my brother.—Jill

Cover To Cover...'An Actor and A Gentleman'

When you were a kid, you thought you were so smart.

Back then, you knew better than your elders, but you also knew better than to tell them that. You were smart enough to get away with doing things (you thought) they never learned about. For sure, nobody could touch you in the brains department when you were a kid.

Then you became an adult, and you saw how much you didn’t know.

WQED replaces ‘Black Horizons’...Mixed reaction to loss of exclusive Black program

“Black Horizons,” one of the longest national running public affairs television talk shows that addressed issues of interest and relevance to the African-American community, is scheduled to be replaced this fall after more than 40 years. The show that has, like the WQED-Multimedia station’s motto states “changes lives,” may no longer do that after Nov. 1, when it is replaced with new programming that will focus on not just African-Americans but the growing number of ethnicities in the region.

The station will have a whole new change in its weekly programming and it’s being viewed as an expansion that was carefully explored.
