Rev. Giles installed at St. John’s Baptist
Category: Lifestyle Written by Nikki Coffee Denton
After nearly three years without a pastor, the congregation of St. John’s Baptist Church in Wilmerding welcomed their new first family, Rev. Samuel Giles and his wife, Linda, at an installation service March 21.
Reverend Giles had preached at St. John’s as a guest pastor since January and “they liked me and kept calling me to come back,” he said. The former associate pastor at Metropolitan Baptist Church on the North Side, said he was content there, but is happy to lead the St. John’s congregation.

The new first family of St. John’s plans to get busy quickly. “We plan to do some healing within the church congregation and then branch out to see what the community’s needs are,” Rev. Giles said. “Since the church has been without a pastor for two and a half years, it’s going to take some time to get used to the congregation and have them get used to me.” Rev. Giles hopes to get the church back to the stature it achieved in the past.

Random thoughts from a cluttered desk
Category: Lifestyle Written by Debbie Norrell
How many times have you been encouraged to go green by discontinuing your paper statements? Every time I log on to pay a bill they suggest that I save a tree by electing to have an electronic payment. I’m all for saving trees but I still want my paper statement. I like to put them together and review them. Yes, I know I can do this online, but I don’t log in each day and with the amount of e-mails that I receive I may miss that reminder e-mail. If I don’t receive the bill in the mail I may forget that I owe that company and incur a late fee. I do believe in my heart of hearts that is exactly what “they” want to happen. So thank you very much I’ll continue to take my paper statements and why can’t we just plant some more trees or make paper from recycled material....?
