Change definitely came knocking at the door when Senior Pastor Jason A. Barr Jr. suffered from a brain aneurysm in 2007, and was out of the church for six months. Macedonia Baptist Church of Pittsburgh was left to find a way to continue.

During his time of recovery, the ministers of the church continuously shifted services trying to maintain the church, and successfully delivered God’s word. Brian James Edmonds, a minister at Macedonia, stepped up to the plate to keep the church moving in the right direction as smoothly as possible.

Congratulatory messages were sent from across the state as Pittsburgh City Council proclaimed May 23 as Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church Day. Too much stuff

“It’s all Too Much” is a book by Peter Walsh, the professional organizer from TLC’s hit series “Clean Sweep.” The book is billed as an easy plan for living a richer life with less stuff. I loved his show and similar shows like “Clean House” and “Hoarders.” I watch them often to make sure that I will never be featured on the show.

For the last three years I have been holding on to a mauve sofa that I bought in the ’80s. I was thinking of using the sofa in my game room/home theater but I couldn’t get it through the basement door. It ended up in the garage and was there to greet me every evening when I came home.

FROGS mark One Hundred Years

On May 5, 1910 the FROGS (friendly rivalry often generates success) came into existence. One hundred continuous years of existence is something to celebrate. Three Rivers Stadium, Forbes Field, The Loendi Club and Pitt Stadium are all gone but the FROGS are still jumping around and going strong.

On May 14 at Edgewood Country Club in Churchill, the FROGS gathered for dinner, celebration and reflection. For the past 24 months Larry Glasco (History Department professor, University of Pittsburgh) and his students have worked feverishly compiling a history of the FROGS drawn from the pages of the Pittsburgh Courier. The first article about the FROGS appeared Aug. 5, 1911, describing how 600 folks attended a picnic, dance and a ball game all on one day, Friday, July 28.
