(LOS ANGELES)—Hundreds of attendees convened at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles at the YWCA fundraiser to honor tennis champion and entrepreneur, Venus Williams, and to celebrate members of its Jobs Corps.
The 117-year-old organization bestowed the honor of Phenomenal Woman of the Year Awards Luncheon upon Williams for her accomplishments on and off the tennis court. During her acceptance speech, Williams discussed what motivates her to contribute to charity causes, particularly in Los Angeles.

The top-ranked women’s player was injured last week and will miss three tournaments leading to the U.S. Open, the WTA Tour said July17.
Williams has withdrawn from tournaments in Istanbul, Cincinnati and Montreal. The tour website offered no details about what happened at the restaurant.

Commentary...LeBron was right

Finally! A decision that received national and international attention that did not come from the White House, Congress, the United Nations or even the European Union. Instead, it was an announcement made at a Boys and Girls Club in Connecticut.
Even before the statement was concluded, folks in Ohio, cried, cursed, booed and burned anything with the number 23 on it. Sportswriters, talking heads of sports and even political analysts dissected and criticized “The Decision.”

The announcement, of course, was that LeBron James had decided to accept an offer to play basketball for the Miami Heat, rather than remain with his previous team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, or even accept lucrative offers from other teams across the country.

Just when I thought that I had heard and written about all the negative Ben Roethlisberger stories I could stomach, there is another alleged tale of “anatomical woe” that has been attributed to the beleaguered quarterback.
If these latest accusations of lewd and bad behavior by the Steelers’ franchise quarterback pan out to true, the Pittsburgh Steelers organization should not wait for the NFL, the courts or any other governing body to take action. If the accusations are not valid, leave the man the hell alone. I have grown weary of these reports about all of sorts of shenanigans Big Ben may be involved in, whether they are true or false.

As if they knew LeBronmania would provide the perfect theme for their new sports-based shows, VH1 scored a success with its two new reality entries, “Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch” and “The T.O. Show 2.” Both debuted with about a million Black viewers.
