“A Milestone in Our Mission” was the theme of the Fifth Annual Hill of Hope Gala, Oct. 13, at the Marriott City Center. Phil and Sandra Hundley served as honorary chairs while Brenda Tate and Kimberly Slater-Wood chaired the event. More than 200 guests attended the gala that supports programs at the Centre Avenue YMCA and the Thelma Lovette YMCA.
The event featured a hors d’oeurves and cocktail reception, awards and recognitions, dinner, après dessert and dancing to the music of Southern Comfort. The 2012 award honoree was The Center that C.A.R.E.S.
The Centre Avenue YMCA, founded in 1906 on the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, led the way in building a strong community by serving as one of the first social, recreational housing facilities in the Pittsburgh area for Black Americans. Now they have expanded their focus and programming with two bases of operation benefiting the Hill District community and surrounding communities, and collectively seek to narrow the gap of disparities to build a healthier community.
